THE WEDDING OF THE YEAR 2020 - BE THERE OR BE SQUARE

DOMAINE DE BAGATELLE

Domaine de Bagatelle occupies a magical hill top location with breath taking panoramic views of the surrounding country side. Set within its own private estate it offers the best in relaxation and seclusion the region has to offer, so you can feel truly immersed in the beauty and tranquillity of the area.

The property is approached along a tree lined avenue surrounded by a beautiful wild flower meadow where many species of butterfly can be found. At the end of this you reach the peaceful gravelled courtyard with boxwood parterre and a central fountain.

Beyond the walled garden is the Arboretum which was laid out by one of the architects of Kew Gardens. It is the perfect place for a leisurely stroll among some beautiful specimen trees or if you want to up the tempo, then take a ramble along one of the cut paths through the private woodland. Here you will find two small lakes and an abundance of rare flora and fauna.

LOCAL AREA

If you can tear yourself away from the glorious Domain de Bagatelle there is a lot to see and do.

The local town of Brantome sits between the two arms of the River Dronne. A collection of red roofs and narrow streets rich in Medieval and Renaissance architecture, stone bridges, riverside gardens and shaded walks it lives up to its name of the ‘Venice of the Perigord’. The ancient abbey, the Friday market and many good restaurants make it popular with visitors and locals alike.

Bourdeilles is a scenic drive away along the picturesque river valley.  There you will find the impressive chateau and a charming village clustered at its foot.

Slightly further afield is the city of Perigueux with its domed cathedral and Roman ruins to explore.

Take time to explore the Grottes Des Villars, a magical underground world. Here you will find breath taking Limestone caves and prehistoric art.

The Dordogne boasts many beautiful castles but the Chateau de Heautfort is one of the most remarkable. Set high on a hill with far reaching views; explore the historic house and the beautiful gardens.

Or take a day trip to the vineyards of Bergerac and Bordeaux. Many of the producers offer tours, tastings and a chance to buy their delicious produce.

For the more active of you why not hire a canoe in Brantome, rent a bike and explore the many local trails or play a round at the golf course in Perigueux.
